Student Issues by Level

As a school counselor you never will truly know what the day will hold. Listed below are common issues a school counselor may face in the broad sense, but there is plenty of other challenges a school counselor could face.


On the elementary level the issues are more proactive. Most of the issues are a byproduct of the home environment. They are:

  • Bullying

  • Sibling Issues

  • Family Systems

  • Parents

  • Attendance

  • Death in the Family

  • Some levels of puberty

On the middle school level there are more complex issues starting to present itself. They are:

  • Bullying

  • Sexuality

  • Gender

  • Race

  • Puberty

  • Relationships

  • Parents

  • Death in the Family

  • Porn Vape

On the high school level there are the most complex issues. They are similar to that of the middle school, but can be on a deeper level:

  • Bullying

  • Sexuality

  • Gender

  • Race

  • Suicidal Threats

  • Drug Abuse

  • Vape

  • Porn

  • Pregnancies

  • Death in the Family
